Staying Connected:

Understanding the BCNA Forum & Neighborhood Association

As many of you already know, the Bouldin Creek Neighborhood Association is a volunteer organization with NO legal rule-making or enforcement power. For the City of Austin, we hold an advisory position for zoning and other issues, which sometimes allows us to influence City policies and the use of resources. Our primary mission is to help preserve and improve the quality of life for neighborhood residents.

As part of that mission, we own and maintain a ‘Listserv’ – an email Bulletin Board that uses the email address BCNAForum@groups.io - sometimes referred to as the Forum. While it is restricted to Bouldin Neighborhood residents, the subscribers to the Forum are NOT necessarily the same people that are ‘Members’ of the Neighborhood Association. Of course, there is a lot of overlap between the groups, but you can be a Subscriber to the Listserv without being a Member of the Neighborhood Association, and vice versa. We always encourage residents to subscribe to the Forum and join the Association.

THE FORUM is very lightly moderated. We count on neighbors’ decency, and encourage constructive, informative dialogue. The ‘moderators’ of the Forum will very occasionally step in and warn a user in the rare instance of inappropriate posting, and remove the user from the listserv if they persist. We strongly discourage ‘spam’ - any kind of business promotion or advertising, other than local events and user recommendations for services.

ASSOCIATION MEMBERSHIP allows residents to vote on issues at the bi-monthly General Association meetings, as well as to be an Officer or Sector Rep. The annual election for these positions occurs at the December meeting.

As Treasurer, I am the keeper of the Membership List. We encourage modest donations in lieu of ‘dues’, but no donation is necessary to become a Member. We only need a request to join, and a confirmation of your address within the boundaries of the Neighborhood. If you are curious about the Association, and/or the Forum, please see contact info elsewhere in this Bulletin.
