Dear Neighbors, I would like to thank all the wonderful volunteers who helped enlarge and reclaim the north section of Nicholas Dawson park. Our first work day in the park was March 29, 2008 when we cleared out the thick invasive plant growth and building debris left by years of neglect. On Saturday, May 10, we added course and fine mulch to the park area. In addition, to the mulching we added two types of native wildflower seeds to the ground in hopes of starting some colorful ground cover. A simple border of reclaimed rocks and rubble from our initial work session was laid out to help retain the mulch as well as define the area park mowers should stay out of. Thanks to Kris Irwin, Carrie McDonald and David Perque for their generous contributions of materials and suplies. Thanks to them and everyone else who has helped with this project we still have funds from our Keep Austin Beautiful grant to continue our plan. We look forward to continue maintaining the new beds and plants with spot eradication of non-native invasive spieces and elimination of Poison Ivy.Matt Coldwell, Pink Sector Rep and BCNA Parks Committee |
