niversity of Texas Architecture
professor Hal Box defined healthy,
compact, self-sustaining neighborhoods
by his "five-minute popsicle rule."
In Bouldin Creek, a child can easily,
safely walk or bicycle from home to the
corner grocery store for a popsicle
within five minutes. From popsicles to
plumbing supplies, hair styling to hardware,
Halloween costumes to hemp clothing;
lotto tickets to legal services; software
development to singles dating services,
it's all within a leisurely walk, delivered
on a human scale--no mega malls or
cookie-cutter franchises. Most of the
neighborhood's businesses are locally
owned and operated.
